The launch of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay took place on Wednesday and what a Hogmanay it looks set to be. For the first time in 16 years, celebrations have been expanded to the Royal Mile. The dramatic backdrop of the Old Town Buildings and fireworks from the Castle is sure to bring proceedings to another level.

The theme for this year’s Hogmanay is “Release your inner party animal” which will definitely add another dimension to the party atmosphere.

Michael’s Rugby World Cup 2015 Blog: South Africa 34 Scotland 16

The Springboks silenced all their critics with a brutally powerful performance against an improving Scottish side. South Africa dominated proceedings from start to finish with the young lock, Lood de Jager leading from the front.

Although the on-field performance was not exactly what I was hoping for, the stadium and atmosphere certainly made up for it. The South African support was outstanding with near enough equal Boks to Jocks in attendance. Our seats were brilliant and we had a great view of the pitch and got a real feel for the intensity of the game.

Our hotel, Staybridge Suites, provided an ideal location from which we could explore the rest of the city. Located only a short walk from Quayside, staff were friendly and helpful and the parking available was a bonus!

All in all a great weekend had by everyone and an experience I won’t forget. Click on the picture above to see what life is like within the South African Rugby World Cup Squad.

The Rugby World Cup kicks off tonight at Twickenham (8pm) with the hosts England taking on an effervescent Fiji team that are bound to put on a show with their physicality and natural skill. Within a competitive group with the likes of Wales and Australia, England will look to stamp their authority and ensure a positive start to their campaign – this will be a cracker!

As Scotland’s Rugby World Cup Campaign intensifies, 7 members of the squad have been dropped including South-African born Josh Strauss who only qualifies through residency 4 days before the start of the tournament. Some of this group should also feel hard-done-by, in particular Hamish Watson. His energetic appearance from the bench on Saturday against Italy appeared to revitalise the Scots and spur them onto victory.
